A Lucky Pinch Of Salt

July 1st, 2008 . by admin

Read to me :

Since the ancient time, salt was considered as the staff of life. No matter how you combine salt with other elements, salt never changes its characteristic. Therefore salt has been classified as an symbol of immortality.

In ancient Rome, people placed a bit of salt onto the mouths of new born babies to bring good luck and long life. In the Middle Ages, salt is sprinkled onto the chest of the dead to ensure an afterlife. The Romans and Greeks toss salt into sacrificial fires in front of their gods.

Many people know it is bad luck to spill salt. If you ever spill salt, you are suppose to toss the spilled grains over your left shoulder. This has been a tradition for a long time but do you know why? The reason is that salt is considered as a lucky charm. Therefore salt is treated like any other charm, amulets or talisman, and cannot touch the ground. That is why it is considered as bad luck when you spilled salt.
