Egg is good or bad luck?

People in the olden days believe that the egg is a symbol of eternity. It is also believed to be a sign of resurrection by the early Christianity. Therefore it is auspicious to bring an egg as a gift to a new mother. The egg will bring good luck to the mother and child. In England, a gift of a white egg bring good luck while a gift of brown egg will bring both luck and happiness.
In Hong Kong, when a person is said to sell salted duck eggs, it generally means the person is dead.
So is egg good or bad luck?
