Everyone’s life is filled with memories. Your past memories define the present "you". If you cannot remember your past, you will not feel that there is a "you" around.

What Are Memories Made Up Of?

If you think about your past, you can only recall bits and pieces of your past. No one can recall every moment of his life.

So what makes you remember those moments and not the other period of your life?

What you remember are moments filled with emotions. If there is no intense emotion at that moment, you are unlikely to remember that moment for life.

In the past, there is a great ancient teacher. Before he speak anything important, he would slap his student first and then speak. This helps his student to remember his teaching better because of the pain.

How To Forget Some Memories?

Memories can be happy or painful. Happy memories are worth keeping in your head but those painful ones are very torturing.

If memories are just charged emotions, you can remove the unwanted memories by removing the emotions behind them. There are 2 ways I used to remove the emotions behind the memories.

Release Technique is the fastest way I can remove my emotions. By applying Release Technique while recalling the unwanted memories, I quickly remove the emotions about that memories. When I don’t feel anything about the memories, that memories will soon be forgotten.

Before I learn about the Release Technique, I use NLP to help me forget the emotion.

  • First I imagine I am watching the unwanted memories on a movie screen in color.
  • Then I rewind the whole scene backwards, very fast in black and white. I need to rewind the scene backwards at least 10 times. If there is any speech, I will see the speaker swallowing back his words.
  • Now I will recall the same memories again. Usually my feeling become less intense. I would repeat the whole process until I feel nothing when I recall those memories.

When you do not feel about a certain memory, that memory will soon fade away with time.

Life is too short to have bad memories. Just take these bad memories as experience of life. Live happily.

Contentment Is Happiness

When you are a 5 year old kid, you are happy with everything you have. When people give you a sweet, you beam with such happiness. You do not grumble about the favor of the sweet. You do not complain about only having one sweet. You basically enjoy it.

At 5 years old, you are contented and live fully in present. You have no desire. You have no preference. Basically you are contented with whatever is happening.

As we grow, we have more and more desires. We feel everything must happen in accordance to our wishes. We feel bad when events appear differently from what we hope for.

Maybe for one minute, learn to be contented. Be contented that you have a desk even though your desk is untidy. Be contented with your looks and everything about you for this is what is given to you in this life. Be contented with your kids as it is better to have your kids than none at all. Just for a minute, don’t compare or judge whatever you have. Just for one minute feel contented.

Thankful Your Way To Riches

Have you notice that you don’t value something in your life until you loose it? This is the mindset of many people. We are programmed in such a way that we take most things in our life for granted. We don’t value our health until we are very sick. We don’t value our life until we are in danger. We complain about our job until there is a retrenchment.

 

Everyday be thankful for one thing in your life : health, family, food, money, friends. By being thankful, we tend to attract more of what we are thankful of. Why?

  • When we are thankful of something, we are thinking positive. We are feeling positive and happy. Do you notice that whatever you do in life is to make yourself happy? So by being thankful, we are happy and our mind will attract more of what you are thankful of, to make you happy.
  • By being thankful everyday, we are affirming our abundance. Affirmation is a strong way to make yourself rich, provided affirmation is done with strong emotions. Have you ever fear or complain about something with so much feeling until it eventually happened?
  • Many of us believe that what we have are provided by a superior force such as God. If you are thankful, God will provide you with even more. Imagine you have two servants or workers. One worker who is always complaining about the food or work  you give him while the other one is always thankful and happy about what you give him. Which one will you like better and may be even promote him? I believe God will feel the same way.

Every morning, be thankful you are in good health and able to get out of bed on your own. Be thankful that you can see with your eyes, hear with your ears and eat food with your mouth. At night, be thankful you have a place to come back from work and a place to sleep. Use your waiting time, traveling time and even your shower time to be in a thankful mode. Soon you feel more prosperous and more good things will happen to you.

Happiness Method 04

There are many ways to be happy. Seeking happiness is the goal in everyone mind. Whatever you do is to make yourself happy. Even if you do something to please someone else, eventually the happiness of that person also cause you to be happy.

Sadness is in the mind. When you are sad, no matter how many happy events happening around you, will ever make you happy. Even the good food is tasteless when you feel sad.

Happiness is also in the mind. With so many holidays like Christmas coming your way, are you happier? Even the same job problems does not affect you so much. Even your boss looks friendlier. Even your kids looks more obedient. You life looks better when your mind is happier.

Always have happy thoughts in your mind. If you cannot keep happy thought in your mind, at least do it at the beginning and the end of each day. Feeling happy at the start of your day will increase your chance of being happy the whole day. Being happy at the end of the day will help you sleep well tonight. The quality of your sleep will again affect your happiness tomorrow.

What are the ways to be happy?

  • Keep a collection of happy moments. Keep hand written recording and photos of happy moments in your life each day. Keep everything in one place. Look through them every time you need happiness.
  • Listen to happy music. Forget about what you heard on the radio. The words in many songs are sad. Listening to these songs a hundred times will make you even more sad. It seems like the words hypnotize you into feeling sad. Collect those songs that make you feel happy. Music without lyrics seems more suited for this purpose. Play these music while you are going to work and after your work.
  • Watch happy movies. What you watch determines how happy you are. Watching the news or crime watch make you angry and sad. Watching horror films makes you fearful. Always select movies and TV programs that makes you feel happy. Just like songs, movies and TV can hypnotize you.
  • Look for things that make you happy. In the internet age, you can always find tons of things to laugh about in the websites. Below are some video that will make you happy.
  • Stay with happy people. Just as words from songs, movies and TV programs can affect you, words from people can also affect you. Always discuss positive and happy things with people around you. Even when talking about bad events, you can always talk about the good part of it like "It is lucky that everyone is fine". Stay away from people who are always complaining to you. Make friends with happy people who discuss happy events in life. These kind of happy people are hard to find. In life, likes attract. Happy people are attracted to happy people. To attract happy people in your life, you first must be happy.

Happiness Method 03

Human are smart emotional beings. It is these emotions that govern our actions. Many times, we are feeling bad emotions too much to feel happy. We may feel worry about our job so much that we cannot feel the happiness our family, our friends and even our pets brings us. Many of us only continuous to bottle up these negative feelings.

So intense is our negative feeling that we cannot feel happy at all most of the time. In this method, you will learn how to get rid of these negative feelings so that you are calm and ready to experience happiness that everything in your life will bring you.

The method is called The Sedona Method. It was invented by Lester Levenson. Lester was dying from illnesses. He uses this simple method and live for another 42 years.

Sedona Method

  • Think of the event or person creating a negative feeling in you. You may be angry at a person, worry about your project, or even fear about going to a meeting.
  • Ask yourself 3 questions
    • Could you let go of the feeling?
    • Would you let go of that feeling?
    • When would you let go of the feeling?
  • Answer each of the 3 questions sincerely. Don’t do any reasoning. Don’t give excuses. Just answer.
  • When you answer the question. See, feel or hear negative emotion energy raising from your head, heart, shoulder or body. Feel relieved and relax as the emotion is released.
  • You may do the releasing a few times to totally remove your negative emotion.

Horace Friess says that everything is beautiful to you when you are happy.

Ramona L. Anderson: People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within.

Many people searches for things, people or events to make them happy. But happiness comes from our inside.

If we keep thinking of how we are scolded by our boss, we won’t be happy even when we are out of the office. When we keep thinking of the arguement we had with our partners, colleagues or spouse, we won’t be happy as well.

This method will make you feel nothing when you think about the event again. You will erase the feeling you had with the event.

NLP Method

  • Step1. Imagine you are watching the event on a cinema screen. Watch how your boss scold you. Watch how you argue with your colleague or spouse.
  • Watch the movie in color. Watch it like a camera filming you in action. You must see yourself in the film.
  • Step2. Rewind the whole movie backwards very fast like a VCD/DVD player rewinding backwards. See how your boss, your colleague or your spouse swallow their words from the air.
  • Do the rewinding 10 times or more.
  • Now do step 1 and check if you had any more feeling when you watch the movie again. You will find the feeling reduced or totally gone. You can repeat step 2 until you have zero feeling about the event.

This method is very useful to me in my work and life. Try it and believe.

Happiness Method 01

Laughter brings happy feelings. Modern neurophysiology states that laughter is linked with the activation of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex. This produces endorphins which produces a good sense of feeling.

Try to apply the laughter method when you are alone, for example, in a shower, in your bedroom or in your car. You don’t want people to interrupt your practice.

Laughter Method 01

  • Imagine that you are an actor/actress.
  • In your script, you are suppose to laugh after hearing a joke.
  • Pretend to laugh for 15-30 seconds. Laugh loudly with the sound "Ha! Ha! Ha!". Don’t laugh in silent because it won’t work.

Laughter Method 02

  • Read a joke or think of something funny/happy happen in your life.
  • Laugh loudly for 15-30 seconds. Laugh as if it is so very funny.

If you can laugh until your tears comes out, you will feel good.

Happiness Formula

The main reason for the things we do in our everyday life is to pursue happiness. All of us without exception, wanted to be happy and to be free from pain.

We want to be rich so that money will make us happy and solve our problems. We want to be successful because we believe success will make us happy. We want to get marry because we believe that the other person will make us happy. Some of us want to have kids because we believe kids will make the marriage life happier. Others who don’t want to have kids because they believe kids will not bring as much happiness but more pain.

When we examine closely at our life, we are consistently in pursuit of happiness. To many of us, happiness seems to be always in a distant planet. When we get married, our honey moon happiness does not seems to last long as we face the real facts of debt. When we have children, the joy that our kids brings us seems to be over shadowed by the pain of taking care of them. When we achieve success, that happiness feeling does not seems to last for more than a week. Is happiness out of our reach?
