Death Comes To All

August 15th, 2008 . by admin

Read to me :

Yesterday, my uncle passed away. As I see him lying motionless in the coffin, suddenly I realise that death is the definite thing that comes to all living things. I know that death comes to all but I always think that death will happens to others but not people around me. How foolish of me?

As my uncle lies there, I notice that he is no different from the coffin, the tables and the chairs in the room. My uncle is lifeless. Like a electrical television that was turned on previously and response to the remote control you pressed, now the television is suddenly unplugged and looked like the rest of the furniture in your house. The dead is no different from a unplugged electrical appliance.

Souls

Living beings are said to have souls. The Taoists beleive that every human has 3 souls. Loosing any one of the souls will make the person insane and loosing all the three souls will declare the person dead. When a person passed away, one soul will reside in the grave, the other one will reside in the house while the third one is allowed to wonder about.

The Buddhists believe that all living beings have souls. The plants has one soul, the soul of life. The animals are said to have two souls; the soul of life and the soul of feeling. Humans on the other hand, have 3 souls; the soul of life, the soul of feeling and the soul of wisdom. Perhaps the reason for not killing animals and humans in Buddhism may be because both human and animals have the soul of feeling and therefore will suffer in pain when being killed.

The Christians also believe that there is a soul in every human and the Devil likes collecting human souls.

Death Comes In Waves

I live in a city and when I see one funeral, I am bounded to see another funeral soon in close distance. There are times when there is no funeral, you cannot find one anywhere at all. It seems that death comes in waves.

Yesterday, I confirmed this findings with the undertakers in my uncle’s funeral. They too found that death seems to swipe through one region at a time, like a wave. They joked that the God Of Death ride a carriage and where ever He goes, he scoopes up the souls of those whose death is near. Then He leaves the region and goes elsewhere to fulfill His duties.

Some Chinese believes that any dying person who is suppose to die, will not live beyond any of the 4 major festivals. If they live beyond this major festival, the next obstacle will be the next festival. The 4 major festivals are dummping festival, hungry ghost festival, moon cake festival and Dong Ji.

Lesson

You cannot be sure you will be rich. You cannot be 100% sure your job will be the same forever. But one thing for sure in the changing world is that death will comes to you one day.

We must learn to value and enjoy everything we have now. We need to learn about what is really important in our life and put more time in them. Instead of keep thinking about tomorrow, we need to think about living today as if it is the last day of our life.

Live today. Learn to enjoy every bit of today now.

Liaofan’s Four Lessons

Read to me :

Download this book at this page. Click the link at the bottom of the page.

I came across this free book "Liaofan’s Four Lessons". It was said to be written by Mr Liaofan in the sixteenth century about how he changed his destiny.

When Mr Liaofan’s whole life was accurately predicted by a fortune teller, Mr Liaofan seems to loose interest in his life because whether he work hard or just idle away his time, he still got the same result as what the fortune teller had predicted. Then one day he understood what is destiny and found a way to change his destiny. He was predicted to be childless but he changed his destiny and had a son. He was predicted to be earn certain amount of salary but he used the method to get promoted and earned even more.

There are four chapters or lessons in this book.

  1. The first lesson of "Learning to Create Destiny" is about the Law of Cause and Effect.
  2. The second lesson, "The Ways to Reform" is developed from understanding cause and effect.
  3. The third lesson of "The Ways to Cultivate Goodness" is the primary lesson, that of cultivating and accumulating goodness. It is based on feeling regret and reforming our faults.
  4. The fourth lesson, "The Benefits of the Virtue of Humility" is the conclusion for the book.

Although you may not totally agree with the book but you can try the method Mr LiaoFan used. The method sounds logical that it may even work.

Character Is Destiny

May 23rd, 2008 . by admin

Read to me :

Most of us have this supernatural ability, the ability to foretell a person future just by looking at the person.

How many times have you look at a person and straight away, you can tell whether this person is going to have a bright or lousy future? This person may be your neighbour, your friend, your colleague or even a stranger. Just by watching his/her character, you can already tell his/her future.

Character

Perhaps you have heard about the sentence "When the going gets tough, the tough gets going .". For some people, when the situation gets tougher with more problems and obstacles, that person become more determined to solve it.

There are many such tough people in the past and living in the present, one of which is Olivia Lum, the CEO of Hyflux company. She is an orphan and adopted at birth. The woman who adopted her is an old lady who later gambled away her house. At the age of 15, Olivia came to Singapore, penniliess, looking for a secondary school. She managed to work part time and support herself through 9 years of schooling until she graduated from university in 1986.

Read More About Olivia_Lum

If you are in her shoes, what will you do? Your character will determine what decision you will make. Each decision you make in your life, determine the result you will get. You are now what you are because of the decisions you have or have not make in the past. Making no decision is a decision itself.

Experience

There is a saying that most family business will not last more than 3 generations. The first generation build the business from scratch. The second generation maintain it. The last generation squander it.

The first generation experience the hardship of building the business. The second generation saw how hard their fathers build the business from scratch. The third generation is born rich when the business is successful. The last generation never experience hardship and take everything for granted.

Your past experience shapes the way you see things. If you comes from a poor family, you will see money as very important. If you come from a rich family, you may not value money as much as a poor person.

Values

Different people values different things in life. Some people like women values their family more than their jobs. People start valuing their health when they are sick.

What you values will determine the decision you make in life. A person who value money more than his pride, may betray his friends, family or even his nation for the sake of money. A woman who highly values his family, will find a job that will not affect her family life.

Different people with different values, will see things differently. The same event means differently to different people because of different values in each individual.

Fate = Character + Experience + Values

Whether your fate is good or bad depends on your character, your experience and your values. Your decision in life are affected by these 3 factors.

A woman who is bought up in a traditional family where the father is the bread winner and the mother is a housewife, will value family more than work. Her childhood experience tells her to value family more than career. This woman will not become a career woman and she will not earn a lot of money.

Another woman who comes from a family where her mother is a career woman. She will in turn feel that her career is more important than a family. She may even marry a man who can take care of the family chores.

Like making a cake, you can adjust the type and amount of each ingredients like eggs and flour, to make the most delicious cake. You, too can adjust your fate and destiny by adjusting these 3 factors : character, experience and value.

Like learning from others on how to bake a delicious cake, you can also learn from other people on how to make your life a successful one. Watch and learn.

Karma And Luck

Read to me :

What Is Karma?

In Pali term,  Karma literally means action or doing. Any action or thought that is created intentionally, will create karma.

How Karma Is Created?

Whenever we perform any action or when we think any thought, an imprint is made upon our mind. When the same actions and thoughts are repeated, the imprint on our mind become deeper and deeper.

When we mixed our actions and thoughts with our emotions, the imprint becomes even deeper, depending on the intensity of our emotions at that time. Each emotion affects our state of mind which determine the type and intensity of the karma produced. If a person is very angry when he kills someone, his negative karma is much stronger than a person who accidentially kill someone because of the emotion felt when performing the killing.

Karma does not depend on the actions. The same action can create different karma for different people because of the intentions. A soldier who is going to war for the love of his nation and family, will create a more positive karma than another soldier that goes to the same war for hating the enemy.

Karma Is A Force

The strength of the karma increases with time until an opposing force is applied. The power of a negative action that will result in suffering, increase day by day if it is not purified. In the same way, a positive action also increase in strength as time passes.

How Does Karma Affect Us?

Stronger karmas bring more powerful result. A very strong negative karma will bring intense suffering. A very strong positive karma will bring extra ordinary happiness and good conditions.

Karma And Luck

You need good karma to fulfill your desires. When you have good karma, you get whatever you want. People with good karma, are often labeled as good luck. When bad karma ripens, bad things happen. This is often called bad luck.

How To Improve Our Karma?

If luck is linked to karma, then by improving karma, you can improve your luck. How can you improve your luck? Simple, you just need to do 2 steps.

  • Purify Your Negative Karma
  • Increase Your Positive Karma

Purify Your Negative Karma

A negative karma will grow as time passes. A killing of a mosquito creates a bad karma, if this karma is not purify, it can grow into a big bad karma that can cause you to be injured or killed.

  • The power of object. Bow in front of a holy object and ask for forgiveness. By kneeing and bowing in front of a holy being such as Jesus, Buddha or any god of your religion, speeds up the purification of your karma.
  • The power of regret. All religions believe in the power of repent. If you sincerely regret of performing an action, the effect of your bad karma is reduced. The bible says "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.". Buddhists also believe in the power of regret. The Taoists and Hindus also repent and ask for forgiveness from their gods when they have done something wrong.
  • The power of opponent force. Perform any positive action with sincere regret to counteract the negative karma. Such positive actions can be chanting, reading religious texts, meditation and more.
  • The power of commitment. Make a promise not to do the negative action again. At first, you can promise not to do that negative action for 5 to 10 minutes. Slowly increase the time. Eventually make a vow to abandon the negative actions forever.

Increase Your Positive Karma

Increasing your positive karma is simpler. In short, you just need to do good deeds and positive actions. Simple? Then how come you have been doing good deeds and nothing good has happen or your good deeds never produce any big results. The reason may be the way you do the good deeds. To get the maximum amount of merits from doing good deeds, you need to have the following.

  • The Intention. As we know, karma does not depend on the action itself but depends on the state of mind at the time you are doing the action. The intention of doing the good deed will create the state of mind at that time. For example, the action of donating a dollar out of compassion to save people,  will yield more merits than giving hundred dollars to show off in front of other people. Actions motivated by compassion, love, generosity, patience, joy, pure morality and other positive states of mind, will produce good karma. Actions done out of negative states of mind like anger, attachment, jealousy, pride, fear, confusion and doubt, will produce negative karma.
  • Doing Everything With Positive Intention. Everyday we do many things without any intention. These actions without intention, do not produce any karma. Such actions include eating, drinking, walking and taking a shower. Why not create positive karma while doing these actions? You can create positive intention before doing each of these actions. Before you eat, have an intention to nourish all the living organism in your body with the food. Before you go to work, have an intention that you are going to work so as to have money to help the needy and donate to the gods. Having positive intentions before you do all these tasks will create positive karma for your future benefit.
  • Never Regret. The power of regret is very powerful enough to stop bad karma. It also have the same effect on positive karma. If you regret helping someone or donating money, your positive action is cancelled out by your regret. Always feel joy that you are blessed to have the ability to help others, rather than being the other way around.
  • Hide Your Good Deeds. After doing a good deed, many of us cannot wait to tell others about the good deed we have done. By telling others, we reduce the amount of good karma we will get because we are doing the good deed out of pride. Keep the good deed to yourself and the good karma will grow bigger as time passes like your money in the bank.

All Actions Are Not Wasted

All actions done, will not be wasted. Each action will generate karma depending on the state of mind at the time the action is created. The karma created, resides in your mind, waiting for the right time and condition to arise. The karma may take one hour, one day, one month, one year or even one lifetime to produce its effect. Every karma is like a seed, waiting for the right soil, right amount of water, the sunlight and the right climate to grow into a plant.

Whatever action you do, it will come back to you.

Luck Chart

April 9th, 2008 . by admin

Read to me :

I receive some feedback from readers asking how to improve luck. One reader mentions that he has been in bad luck for some time and wanted to know how to improve his luck.

In fact, all of us, including me, are trying to improve our luck. Some of us may not believe in luck and call this as improving life. Whether you are improving your life or improving your luck, they are very much the same.

I spend many years seeking the technique to improve luck, to ward off bad luck and to get rich. Since my childhood years, I have been wondering why things are the way they are. Why I am not born rich? Why do I need to suffer in school and work? Why some people are born so rich and why some people are born handicapped? Why some people died young, some people died sick and a small number of people died peacefully?

Why? Why? Why? Frankly, until today, I am still seeking the answer.

My Theory Of Luck

Everyone’s luck fluctuate day to day. Some days are good luck days. Some days are normal days when nothing is happening. Other days are bad luck days when nothing goes right.

In my opinion, no matter how good or bad your luck is, your luck fluctuate about a center line. If you plot your luck on a graph, your luck graph will look like this.

Everyone’s luck goes up and down about a center line. Some people call this center line as fate or destiny. Others label this line as their karma for this life.

The position or value of the center line varies for different people. The lucky people will have higher values for their center lines. The unlucky ones will have a lower value for their center line. This value does not depend on the wealth of the person. There are lucky people among the poor and middle class, just as there are unlucky people in the rich and upper class.

The chart shows that the number of cycles above the center line will always be the same as the number of cycles below the center line. For a lucky person whose luck cycle fluctuate about a large positive value, this person may experience little misfortune because the down cycles do not drop to very low value. In the same manner, an unlucky person may have a low value for his center line and never experience very big blessing because his up cycles never hit a high value. There are also people whose luck chart always fluctuate in the positive or negative region only.

People use many methods to calculate the value of this center line. Below are some of the methods used.

  • Palmistry
  • Astrology
  • Numerology
  • ZiWei

The degree of fluctuation also varies from person to person. Some people’s luck never change much throughout their life and will have a flat luck chart. Others may have big ups and downs in their life, thereby creating a noisy luck chart. Most of us have different level of fluctuations in different period of our life.

The good news is that the center line is not fixed but can varies up or down. In the next few articles, we will discuss how we can move this center line upwards.

Learning To Control Your Destiny

January 28th, 2008 . by admin

Read to me :

Your fate (or destiny) is like a river. You can sit around and let the flow of the river takes you where ever your final destination is. Or you can go upstream against the water flow and reach the destination that you want to be. Many success people are born poor and illiterate. Yet they become millionaires or billionaires. They work against the odds. They had bad days. If they had resign to their own fate, many of them will still be poor and illiterate.

If you are fated to have a good life, what happens when you take a knife and go around killing everyone you see in the broad daylight? Your destiny immediately changes. Instead of enjoying your good life, you will either be hanged or jailed for murder.

Your destiny is make up of your belief, your past decisions and your past karma. Your destiny is therefore created by you. If you take massive actions towards your goals, you will eventually ended up where you want to be.

The golden rule about fate : Learn your fate but don’t resign to it. Take massive actions to change your destiny.

Fastest and sure way to success

October 29th, 2007 . by admin

Read to me :

Many people thinks that the fastest way to wealth and success is by striking lottery, marrying a rich husband/wife or inherit a big fortune. Although these ways are very fast, what are the chances it will happen to you?

Wishing for something else is the mind set of almost everyone. If I had a few thousands of dollars, then I can grow it into a million dollar. If I had a good boss, then I can get promoted faster. If my parents are rich, then I will be rich. But how true are these "if". If I had a few thousands dollar, I may spend it instead of investing it. If I had a good boss, I may be lazier and never get promoted. If I had rich parents, I may grow up to be a useless rich guy who will used up the family fortune. So is it good to have all that you wish for? I once read about a rich stock broker says that if he had not become rich in stock market, he would not have womanized so much until he divorce his wife and break up his family. He lose his family after he gain his wealth.

Another fast way to riches is
Do the best with whatever you have, wherever you are, every moment of your life.

Imagine you try to improve whatever you have by 10% every month. You improve your bank saving by 10%. You improve your income by 10%. You improve your knowledge by 10%. In a year, you will be 120% better than a year ago. Imagine the speed of improvement when you improve whatever you have by 10% every day or every week.

Learning to make the best use of whatever you have and improve your situation by 10% will bring more result than just hoping that things will be fine soon. You may be a nurse. Why not use your medical knowledge to earn you more money? You may be a technician. Why not help others to repair stuff and earn some money? Remember that not everyone in this world has the knowledge that you have, the skills that you own. People are willing to pay for your service.

One of the millionaires, Randy Gauge mentioned that if he had known this rule sooner in his life, he would have become a millionaire faster.

Apply this golden rule in your life and you will see success soon.

What is Luck?

October 22nd, 2007 . by admin

Read to me :

A person win $1million in a TV contest, a bank clerk suddenly promoted into a bank manger, and a young woman suddenly being offered to become a actress. Is this luck or the person just being in the right place at the right time?

Many things happen in your life everyday. Small ones. Big events. The usual events and the not so usual ones. It is the unknown force that seems to bring the correct mix of everything together at the right time and at the place to form a blessed outcome. This is what many people called luck.

Another School Of Thoughts

LUCK can be an acronym for "Living Under Correct Knowledge". If you had the correct knowledge on how to do something, you will succeed the first time you do it. That’s what everyone call successful people lucky people. If you bake a cake without the right knowledge and burnt the cake, is it unlucky? If you know how to see charts and know when to trade stocks, are you lucky or just knowledgeable? If you never take driving lessons before and knock into a tree with your dad’s car, are you unlucky? Learning the knowledge that "lucky" people have, will enable us to be as lucky as them. Learning how great chefs cook will make us great cooks. Learning how to trade and spot the right stocks will enable us to be "lucky" in the stock market. Learning how to manage and invest our money will make us "lucky" millionaires.

Create Own Luck

If you resign to your fate, no one will be able to help you change your life. Remember that nothing is for sure in this ever changing world. If you do everything you can to improve your life a bit by the day, you can change your life completely. If you are willingly to improve your "luck" by trying,

God helps those who help themselves.
